Four/Zero 04:56
FOUR/ZERO four-zero to one shot, double-up no time to waste no more ain't gonna take it easy now a lifetime with these bones crack me up and send me to the moon pin me to the wall the night ends far too soon pick me up and put me out the door scrape me off the floor and all i ever wanted was to see the lights in the rearview, fading out into the night four-zero to one shot, double-up no time to waste no more ain't gonna take it easy now the road goes on and on take me to the garden of the sun pardon me, i'm one of you now we're in too deep way beyond the shadows of our souls we're holding on to those and all i ever wanted was to break the spell i've been in so long that none of us could even tell four-zero to one shot, double-up no time to waste no more ain't gonna take it easy now the end may come too soon don't look beyond the finish line we still got time to take it all back from where we've come we came so far from those old walls they crumble now and all i ever wanted was to sing these songs building halls and hills like i can do no wrong four-zero to one shot, double-up no time to waste no more ain't gonna take it easy now -3/5/14

DEVIL ON MY SHOULDER we got a whole lot of nothin' but we're doin' fine if we wait another year we just might lose our minds and send 'em down the river where we sold our souls to the captain and the king of rock and roll nights ain't the same without that sweet, sweet sound nights ain't the same since we gave it all away i can see right through the mirror, yeah i know just what you need i can see into the future, yeah in the garden, there grows some sort of whipporwill if you don't know then make it up and stay until the first light creeps between the window shades and you hit the door and blow all the dust away the morning ain't the same without that sweet sweet sound the morning ain't the same since they took it all away i can see right through the mirror, yeah i know just what you need i can see into the future, yeah and it looks like today but in a different way when the moon hangs on over our battered heads when the sun burns our eyes and leaves us all for dead just another day in the life of you and me and the devil on my shoulder there for all to see life just ain't the same without that sweet sweet sound life just ain't the same since they scattered all away i can see right through the mirror, yeah i know just what you need i can see into the future, yeah -3/4/14

Newfoundland 03:46
NEWFOUNDLAND over in the corner where the world don't spin so fast over in the corner where the assholes finish last you can see the sun rise from the edge of the world over in the corner where the world don't spin so fast and i've waited and i've waited all my life to be there and i've waited and i've waited just to breathe i'm gonna do it my way, my way over in the corner with the fog and the wild sea over in the corner with the dogs and the jubilee you can let it all go at the edge of the world over in the corner with the fog and the wild sea and i waited and i waited all my life for something i waited and i waited just for this i'm gonna do it my way, my way and i waited and i waited for this life to pay off i waited and i waited just to breathe over in the corner where the wind sweeps through the trees over in the corner you can be all you want to be you can see it all end at the edge of the world you can see it all begin at the edge of the world over in the corner where the wind sweeps through the trees and i waited and i waited just to make that change and i waited and i waited for the strange i'm gonna do it my way, my way -3/5/14

LATE FOR THE WOODS it's not just the wind that's taking you in, my friend it's not just the way that we make these mistakes again two feet on the floor but our spirits they soar til they fade it's our mess to make can't you smell the mistakes we all made like pipers we stroll through the fields gathering moss til it grows underneath our heels like pipers we stroll and we'll never stop when we are told we're getting too old to be here no, we'll never learn one, to the wall as if nothing at all was the same what kind of bird understands all these words they all say moments of glory not just some old storybook tale it's our turn to shine and we'll piss on the lines and prevail like pipers we stroll through the fields gathering moss til it grows underneath our heels like pipers we stroll and we'll never stop when we are told we're getting too old to be here no, we'll never learn we'll take to the road and the hills that erode in sweet time hammer to nail like a bird to a whale, we're all fine dance on the line take a chance and we'll find it's all good enough with the wait we are already late for the woods like pipers we stroll through the fields gathering moss til it grows underneath our heels like pipers we stroll and we'll never stop when we are told we're getting too old to be here now we burn through the best of our years no, we'll never learn -3/3/14

MOVE LIKE WIND pray for rain, pray for no rain stay for the ride, or stay inside gonna fight em off, fight em off til they let go gonna ride it out, ride it out and feel the flow and move along now to swing or sway, swing or sway it's what we say to get our own way gonna hit the road, hit the road and hit it hard gonna cut them down and leave them out in the yard and move along now this fear dissolves into the ether. another year to think about the mess all we take away still lets us be there what's next? it's anybody's guess to move like wind, to move like wind it'll even out in the end these pillars of doubt, pillars of doubt they tumble down we're gonna wipe the crumbs or swipe the crumbs and blow this town and move along now -3/6/14

OUR TIME TO SHINE the rain it missed us, on and on straight into a groovy kind of weather out the window, down the line no looking back, we're terrified and smiling it ain't no thing, we grew our wings and we learned to sing a happy kind of song this kind of life can bring us everything from sweat to swing to anything, so long i heard the angel bargain, leave his mark on that old man from down the road t'was nothing new i guess but when it's mine i want the rest of what i'm owed i don't care, at least i'm there i'm screaming in the front row of the show knockin' off the beggars in the way this way just ain't the way to go this is our time our time to shine shine like the gold in the hands of the mother sun shine like the crest of a wave before it's all done shine like the eyes of the greatest love we've ever known shine like a rolling stone the message from beyond the fold it read you better never damp the fire that's burning in my soul i cannot vouch for what ain't rolling down the wire to make through the morning dew and hold on til the fireflies at night it's what we want, it's what we got ain't nothing but the sweetness and the light this is our time our time to shine shine like the gold in the hands of the mother sun shine like the crest of a wave before it's all done shine like the eyes of the greatest love we've ever known shine like a rolling stone -3/7/14

BETTER OFF OUTSIDE sea to sea and all between i've seen it all and lived to wipe it clean i was twenty when i lost it i was thirty when i found you in a dream the closer that i come to sitting down the further off it becomes another part, another play, another time and place between where my hands and face collide sometimes we're better off outside we're better off outside hand in hand like grains of sand conversing with the wind and with the tide there's nothing ever sweeter than a summer rain, trying to hitch a ride and the closer that it comes to moving on the further off it becomes another wall, another door, another window keeping score for all the years we thought to hide sometimes we're better off outside we're better off outside now all those missed years fade away like mist in a noon day sun we're on the run take your time, yeah, you've got time that's what we always said, to ease our minds and we're still here after all these years it's time to move, just to see what we might find and the closer that we come to letting go the further off it becomes another life, another world, another way and mean between all the things we've been denied sometimes we're better off outside we're better off outside -2/27/14

DREAMERS ON THE ROAD when the wind is still behind me and the day seems wild and long if you look you just might find me hangin' on to the mirror image, bless me count your cards and do your time it's the small things that impress me down the line and we may not have a penny to our name shoot first, it's only just a game this life we're living, it's a gift one good turn deserves another moment in the light if you do it right when the sky is cold and quiet when the rain is ragin' on you can think about the riot and how it's gone you can close your eyes and dream about another place and time click your heels, wait out the steam and cross the line and we may just be two dreamers on the road where does it end? nobody knows just how it came to be like this but something in my mind keeps telling me that it's the way that we must be and what it is is what it is when the road has reach the end before the cliff, before the sun we're gonna do it all again before we're done and thank our lucky stars that we still have it in our souls to push on ever farther from this hole and we may change the way we talk the way we move, the way we walk along the way, it's not for us to say the only way to grow is just to go and live the next set of this show we'll sing along, we'll sing along -3/2/14

about

Chris Anderson's 44th full-length album, written and recorded in one week, immediately following the release of Breaking Away.

The original idea for this record was to take the leftover tracks from Breaking Away and add some new songs and turn that into an album. But then too many new songs came too quickly and all of those leftover tracks got bumped down to the next album.
