WHAT DISASTER MEANS TO ME you can see it on the tv in the adverts and the news some joker with a rifle's shooting holes between the blues for a payment slip on a sinking ship where the righteous think they're free as i get old, i'm always told what disaster means to me from the fringes of the ice to the outskirts of the fire you see them kick and knock us down just to make themselves look high with our heads in sand, all across the land from sea to salty sea as i get old, i'm always told what disaster means to me the pundits and the pipers dishing out the daily slime these notions spill like oil slick the walls we're left to climb to the whining box, they changed the locks and they swallowed all the keys as i get old, i'm always told what disaster means to me to offer proof of some new truth to the staggered hands in the voting booth they bring the storm, in waves and forms and betray the youth to offer proof of some new truth to the staggered hands in the voting booth they bring the storm, in waves and forms -7/15/08

Skullduggery 03:28
SKULLDUGGERY get on your feet i'll drag you through a better day now, don't you tell me no lies i'd only throw them all away no one's gonna pay to dream another dream so real like what your mantra said no one's gonna pay speaking in tongues i could not figure out what mother said speaking in tongues i could not figure out no one, no one no one's gonna pay look at me now i wander like a pack of wolves or like a pack of lies feeding on the truth, none the wise exploding out from your own eyes breaking all the chains and the ties dancing out the door with the prize laughing while the angel cries speaking in tongues i could not figure out what mother said speaking in tongues i could not figure out no one, no one no one's gonna pay -Winter 1996

FADE INTO BLUE what's the use in building houses out of cards you always knock me down what's the use in playing games with you it's never win nor lose what's the point in tearing down the walls you never gave away and what's the reason that you called me over i said i'm over you i'm lying on my back under the sun with a mental photograph of you and just like the clouds you always fade into blue fade into blue... what's the use in building mountains out of egos when they wash away what's the use in saying everything is cool alright, it's a-ok and what's the point in telling everyone you know that you don't know me well what's the use in all that time spent rearranging you can go to hell i've fallen on my face tearing up a mental photograph of you and like the ocean eats the waves you always fade into blue fade into blue... what's the use in writing songs with old emotions like they're here to stay i only wrote this song to fill a certain space a mood, so go away what's the point in channeling expressions old and tattered like you now just to make a point or make a statement everything is fading now... -9/14/04

FIGHTING FOR THE WHEEL Take a walk, take a smoke "Take a drink on me, my friend" The shady river spoke Take a drive - how does it feel? To be standing side by side And still fighting for the wheel I've seen enough and I've heard it all Those lines that you deliver aren't your own I've seen enough and I've heard it all It's not enough to say That you'll be coming round Take a stand - have a seat Close your eyes and dream away Just don't fell back to sleep Take a number but don't wait in line Sometimes you'll be jumping When you say your feet are fine I've seen enough and I've heard it all The lines that deliver aren't your own I've seen enough and I've heard it all It's not enough to say That you'll be coming round -June 2001

Wellwater 02:57
WELLWATER the morning whistles light and colors through it's sound you never thought you'd find your feet below the ground where one was planted something crawled around the bend it's the heat of the moment it's the wellwater how've you been? and all these games and none to play and all those shadows speaking every word you say the other's planted where the lights are getting dim it's the heat of the moment it's the wellwater how've you been? this apparition in my way has fixed intentions somewhere close to far away he nods and shakes it off and stumbles once again it's the heat of the moment it's the wellwater how've you been? and all these roads are wearing out and all those passengers no one can talk about and all these voices crumble crawling in your skin it's the heat of the moment it's the wellwater how've you been? take a taste and drift away this city's wasted and I'm certain, either way that all this useless talk is getting kinda thin it's the heat of the moment it's the wellwater how've you been? - 7/5/01

Ennui Song 03:06
ENNUI SONG sunday morning in the bathroom and she's weeping all the time and it's always the same old stale routine and it's a lie when she says she's feeling fine monday afternoon is just the same as everyday my ennui, she keeps growing like a vine and though the names have changes the scenery just stays the same old, same old and every time she bats her eyes and every time she tries to cry i only runk away and every time she drags me home i turn away and leave alone you know that i won't be a star coz i can't take you very far and maybe i ain't ever coming home you know it's been too many years and tears and years, and years and tears and maybe i ain't ever coming home release the dogs, release your demons hold them in your hand and wait it out it'll only be alright until the final moment when all you knew as dust will turn to gold you know that i won't be around to see you run it to the ground coz baby i ain't ever coming home i'll keep your ghost inside my head my ennui, she's as good as dead so baby i ain't ever coming home -fall 2000

THE BOY AND THE MAN the days grow slimmer, you stare at the bank counting all the ducks as they move into rank these moments dissolve so what's left to say when the heroes have all gone away like a two year old kid on a dead end street no hands to hold, no crumbs to eat his face is cracked, his eyes a mess it can only get better than this the night grew still, the moon kept its place the glow hit the ground but it missed your face the northern winds ran so cold their course and shattered in hurricane gales of remorse thirty years gone, still alone on the street grasping for heroes with lead in your feet your face is cracked, your eyes a mess it can only get better than this scenes in vague dreams are all you got now they lighten the mood and the tension somehow till you wake in the dark all alone with your thoughts your heroes are gone and it leaves you in knots a two year old boy and a man on the street one is the shadow, the other his feet whose face is cracked? whose eyes are a mess? it can only get better than this -October 2008 (with Sean Lichtenberger)

Fever Dream 05:01
FEVER DREAM and so it goes this fever keeps us begging for the dawn the river flows but keeps us at the mercy of the storm a siren song, she wails a tiger's tricked out of her tail she steals the boat and pulls the ropes evens the keel, and hopes to sail away and so it goes this pattern demonstrates a will to run away from those who hesitate to shield us from the sun the siren sails ahead the tiger's left them all for dead, along the road she sings a shanty song and everybody joins along this episode and so it goes she feels the heat, she feels the bitter chill do you suppose she'd feel the same at the apex of the hill the siren throws a fit the tiger shakes and spits this tale has come around beyond the wall, disaster falls till fortune buries fate beneath the ground and so it goes this fever keeps us begging for the dawn -2/4/10

Winter Sun 04:34
WINTER SUN there's nothing as blinding as a winter sun in the evening time there's nothing as cold as a raven before its first flight there's nothing as precious as the gold that you're leaving behind, dear there's nothing as deep as the well that you dug for yourself, my dear and i won't be there when you shutter the top of your well and hide from the cruel winter sun and i won't be there when you claw at the stone in the spring there's nothing as cheap as the way that you move through the market, dear there's nothing as steep as the lines that have grown on your face, dear there's nothing as tried and tested as your holy thoughts, my dear there's nothing as loose as the skin on your knees, my dear and i won't be there when you shutter the top of your well and hide from the cruel winter sun and i won't be there when you claw at the stone in the spring there's nothing as stark as the sun in the sky, sometimes there's nothing as dark as the sand in your eyes, sometimes there's nothing as bruised as the marks from your nails on your hands, my dear there's nothing as abused as your mind and the pale of your face, dear and i won't be there when you shutter the top of your well and hide from the cruel winter sun and i won't be there when you claw at the stone in the spring and dissolve amidst all that's begun and i won't be there when you dig out the lines on your face and replace them with some holy grace and i won't be there when you claw at the stone in the spring there's nothing as dark as the sun in the sky... -2/8/09

Cold Rain 04:34
COLD RAIN excuse me while i lay this down i just wanna say "what it is" now i think i felt like stepping out even i don't know what i was on about there is no doubt, there is no blame i'm done walkin' in the cold cold rain the die is cast, we set the scene in the opera of all the spaces in between i closed my ears to hear the tune and forgot that i was dreaming in the other room there is no pull, there is no game i'm done walkin' in the cold cold rain i'm done singin' to the wall again i'm done talkin' that talk and walkin' that walk i'm gonna chalk it up so here , here i am what it is, here i am what it is, am i here? excuse me while i whirl around my feets' here, my head is in another town i left it in between the cracks but if it's still good, i think i wanna have it back there is no time, there is no shame i'm done walkin' in the cold cold rain i'm done singin' to the wall again i'm done singin' in the cold cold rain -2/12/12
