In May 2014, Krissy and I left our jobs and home and embarked on a road trip that was to last five months, during which time we deeply explored the Maritimes and ended up spending three amazing months living in Newfoundland. We did all sorts of stuff while we were there, and met so many amazing people. Most of that summer was spend living and working at the Skerwink Hostel, in Trinity East Newfoundland. That place quickly became a second home to us, and those who we knew there were like family. While my intent was to write lots of songs on this trip, only one got done. Written high on the hill behind the hostel, overlooking Trinity Harbour and the lighthouse, I marveled at the stupendous nature of that voyage in a song called "Another Line".
After returning home, we found a new place to live, and I set up shop in what is known as The Room (an homage to The Rooms, which is the massive Newfoundland museum that dominated the St. John's skyline). Naturally, the first song recorded in this new space had to be "Another Line". Without any companion songs, this track was an orphan and sat in the vault for quite some time.
In 2017, my old buddy Rust was relaunching his Flyingdeer label and asked if I would be interested in licensing something to him for release. After going back and forth, I decided to create a new EP out of some stray tracks, match it with a photo I took at the abandoned Trinity Loop park, in Newfoundland, and filled out the program with three songs that were written and recorded for the 2016 album, Doing Time On The Horizon, and this EP was born.
Thanks to Rust, this was to be the first FDM release to hit streaming services since 2013's Forward To The Sun. Over the next two years, we would release 25 singles and EPs on that label, each one tied to a different FDM album release. Eventually, however, Rust pulled the plug on the label and those releases vanished from all retailers. While the b-sides would be recompiled over five separate albums, a few of the EPs were left alone. Initially, The Trinity Loophole was released on the BG label, which is my "bootleg" label, but I am happy to finally be able to promote this to a full FDM release. Welcome home.
Oh yeah, by the last time I went up there, in 2019, that Ferris wheel had fallen down, into a crumpled mess. Those who may receive this on CD will find an image of that on the back cover. This amusement park was huge back in the 80s and 90s before falling on hard times and closing. Hurricane Igor totally trashed the place, pretty much rendering it an apocalyptic wasteland. Lots of trails around there and, despite the rusted-out trains and rides (and broken glass) it is actually quite a tranquil place. Word has it that they are working on rebuilding this. The last several years has seen a relative boom in Trinity area and this would surely elevate their economy even further. I hope it works out. I love that place (and its people) to no end and I can't wait to go back.

label, Flying Dachshund Music, Chris has released 154 CDs, 96 of them being full-length albums. That's just the tip of the iceberg and there are no signs of stopping. Ever.
