Morpheus 06:07
beneath the sea of silence golden clouds we see behind the wall this holy dive we're fine in the circle wax goliath derail every freak that sings about the talons and the gods of night we're alive all of a sudden we're alive good lookin' out dovetail on the black sun sailing opera shadows full-on foolin' no one but the thief is looking on white hot halo do me not by slight of hand or good luck bleeding sense off all the ones who did us wrong we're alive all of a sudden we're alive good lookin' out fits of love and fevers fading light betrays a corner stone the crow is singing maiden in the wind crossing out deep bend back out hit hard my teeth are testing out the strength of all the wisdom in the bin we're alive all of a sudden we're alive good lookin' out -8/7/21

like a photograph of better days i must admit that it's not gonna be any bigger than we are i will just pretend that the bends are on the brink of making sense sometimes it's silly just to think i've come so far bring on the rain underneath the void those shutters slam, i'm overjoyed at the silence, it's so loud i hide my face behind my eyes and i will count to one before i step out on the stage i'll act my age but just don't think it's not a product of the ways we disengage bring on the rain when the ship comes in and all her ghosts are on the shore waiting for another chance to even up the pain with the blackest eye and all the lies we can relate forgot my feet, i'm running late for the unexpected rain bring on the rain -8/28/21

Music Box 02:33
i'm like a music box every thought becomes a song gonna rock, gonna rock until i move along i'm like a music box when i'm wound i'm singing proud gonna rise to the mood here on the dirty cloud this genie's got a fourth wish whatcha gonna do with it i know i'm gonna take it to the mountain and stumble on the trail shaking off the dust and hail only then will it ever really count i'm like a music box with a million different tunes what it means is nothing much except to some of you i'm like a music box but i'm steering from the rut keeping fresh is the only reason i get up the angel's got a two-bit siren on her tooth there's nothing to believing it's beyond the proof where the blind meet the mute underneath the parachute there's a million different songs i plan to leave i'm like a music box singing on my own if you want to hear i think it's better to be stoned i'm like a music box when there is nothing in the way that keeps me from the part i always choose to play -8/8/21

taking your eyes away from the cloud is nothing to a blind soul and the wind in the tunnel's oh so loud i'm at the bottom of the hole taking it too far taking it too hard taking it too tough have you had enough? leaning has always done me fine whenever there's a dark night gleaning the curve is out of line surrender to the black light taking it to heart take it to the start taking it too rough have you had enough? bleeding on the line, man can't you see the corner of life i got a rain cloud burning like a thief in the night we have our islands shelter in the shadows away the holy ghost is taking numbers and all i got is blowing away a page out of the log of the stray and all we have is withered and frayed but still we don't notice a pat on the back, we did it, wow another kind of wild wind is blowing the course from here to now forget about the end -8/19/21

the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than the moonlight better than where we've been so let's do it all again the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than a quiet night it's better when we're in the spin here we are now gunning for the gold her eyes are the divide what's thought and told we're on the brink, now of learining how to think it's time to yuk it up or drink it down the eyes of all the angels swing in figures like calamities often we all navigate the oceans of uncertainty the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than the moonlight better than where we've been so let's do it all again the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than a quiet night it's better when we're in the spin we're in the hole now wading through the tide of lies i know the air is in her eyes i got it all now the diamond and the dirt it never really hurt to watch it fall and the eyes of every angel sees a devil waiting at the gate an opera, it is not, but sometimes we'll just make 'em wait the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than the moonlight better than where we've been so let's do it all again the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than a quiet night it's better when we're in the spin we're in the dark, here we're stringing it along just to see what kind of fears are going on upon the wall we all sing out to the wind before we hit the spin and go again the eyes of all the angels tell stories of the afterglow silently we scream along until it's time to go into the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than the moonlight better than where we've been so let's do it all again the dim it's better than the bright lights far better than a quiet night it's better when we're in the spin i am going down to the river now take me as i am -7/13/21

i found the genie under the pavilion lights or was i dreaming sometimes i can't tell if it's night just keep on pretending that i'm not ending up in between keep on pretending it's nothing that i've never seen i hit the bottle harder than a paving stone and i threw it out i'm better off when i'm alone just keep on pretending that i'm not ending up in between keep on pretending it's nothing that i've never seen islands only join when oceans dry who's got the time to rectify all the giants in the way that keep our spider sense at bay and all that we can do is wait i pulled the curtain down from where you held it there i knew for certain that we were locked up in an icy stare i declare nothing but a cast of millions on my tongue they keep me running up and down the hill until i'm done just keep on pretending that i'm not ending up in between keep on pretending it's nothing that i've never seen -9/1/21

the paper moon is hanging low those lemon eyes, they come and go and i hear a faint whisper in my ear the time has come and now we are all here doing time on the borderline doing time on the other side of this you and me standing on the edge of infinity standing on the edge of a dream standing on the edge of what it seems / means to be me below the velvet is the seam that binds us here inside this scream this talk is nothing like the wave that crashes down before we can be saved lookin' out at the beyond lookin' out just to see it all come back you and me standing on the edge of infinity standing on the edge of a dream standing on the edge of what it seems / means to be this crystal ghost is on the way to the other side, an infinite display her eyes are spiraled like the dawn this tortured new beginning's got me on the run and the tired angels in the sand are swaying to their servants in the band there's nothing like the wind to bring it home and lead us through the fire just to get to the unknown you and me standing on the edge of infinity standing on the edge of a dream standing on the edge of what it seems / means to be -8/19/21

i'm like the sun i'm like the rain i'm like the wind here we go again out in the backstreet bad dream unfolding here is where it all begins this end, is it something to behold? or is it just a crossroads waiting in the cold eye gold light shining overhead and this vantage point is where your fears have tread and we're taking it all further down the line where the white knuckle haze has got us longing for the pine i'm like the sun i'm like the rain i'm like the wind here we go again we got another ear to bend all the years that we kept it all behind this velvet grin we're in among the shadows and the dirt this bad news muster's gotta get you where it hurts i know, we all see it in the clear how come all the ghosts show their faces and then disappear in the low end corner of the last lost mind until the moment comes i'm like the sun i'm like the rain i'm like the wind here we go again no time for the gutter talk gotta take it easy and walk on down the drain in the rain, little jane has got her water in vain take another step and you'll watch it all wither away like the birds and the bees and the piper that's bringing the world to its knees who, me? i got everything i need to waste a lot of time doing everything right -9/20/21

about

Chris Anderson's 92nd full-length album release.

So the story goes like this. Every February since 2007 I have participated in the RPM Challenge which is a worldwide challenge for artists and bands to create an album from nothing in one month, purposely choosing the shortest month of the year. In those 15 years, 17 albums have been created and submitted for the challenge, having risen to the occasion every time, even when inspiration was dry.

When February came around this year, I was already very deep into what will probably be a three year project. My original plan was to record the big concept piece, Ruby, and then I had mentioned finally recording The Trials Of Henry. Both of those require much practice and advance planning in order to pull off, which is not something that is possible when I am already dealing with demoing and recording the 300 songs that came in the second half of last year while at the same time preparing to release all of the albums that were written and recorded in the first part of last year AND building, rehearsing, and playing a set of new songs every week. There just wasn't time to focus on yet another project.

Then I got this idea to record a handful of the new songs on my Fostex cassette 4-track, but I never really got around to that either. Finally, on the 25th of the month, it dawned on me to utilize some of those demos and make an album out of that. At that point there were almost 60 songs demoed, in six different sessions. As these were just acoustic and vocal versions, bass was added, as well as percussion and backing vocals, over the course of one incredibly busy weekend. While there were ideas about including just the more esoteric songs, the ones that would not otherwise be on an album, but I find myself gravitated towards the big guns, the heavy hitters, the songs that most knock me out. Every one of these songs will be re-recorded and will form the basis for at least one eventual album, if not many. These are songs that came out of nowhere, with little effort, and many of them are major points of pride.

In keeping with the last minute, rush job here, the cover art was quickly devised while at my work desk, and the album is being rush released. This is the first official FDM album since 2008 to not be fully produced, which is weird (I considered releasing this on the BG label but changed my mind). This is a fun session and these songs will inevitably be re-recorded, possibly several times, and even these very recordings will be enhanced a great deal before they are marked complete (stay tuned for those to be released). What you have here is a tiny glimpse into one of the many stages of music production, just a little speck of my mind. Hope you all dig this. Stay tuned for much more of this project.
