GRENADINE & WINE scenic dust and sterile ground pound for pound the bikers make a horrid sound slicing through the stillness that we found and on and on the preachers teach about the madness of the soul and how we sometimes get confused between the pipers and the toll hello! it's about that time again hello! this greasy wheel's where we begin hello! it's about the time again to cap the manic smothering his mother with a grin purposeful and powerless we meet the heiress and the gist of everything we ever missed time and time again this bad behaviour drunken saviour shaving off the final splat divine, he's double fisting grenadine and wine hello! it's about that time again hello! we gotta get the grease from off our chin hello! it's about that time again to break the magic mother that we all keep deep within masquerades and marmalades and marmosets and mad parades her fingers get confused in all the magic that they made it's a tiny lie, it's a tiny line we walk and talk around the vines they grow and penetrate from town to town and state to state and through the wide open spaces in our minds you can't replace the wisdom of the times head to head, the gloria said it's not the cause, it's how it's fed and here, we stand and watch it all go by hello! it's about that time again hello! we gotta grease the wheel again hello! it's about that time again to make or break the cycle that keeps us in this circus how've you been? how have you been? there's nothing like a win at the end of the line i hope you're doin' fine yeah, i hope you're doin' fine with your grenadine and wine i hope you're doin' fine -7/13/06

Shield 02:14
SHIELD the stars keep shining on my face i shield my eyes from that ghost i feed my ego and leave her hanging by her toes i recognize the mist aslumber and i cannot stay but miles beyond this maze this maze has walls and floors none colder these candles hardly ever glow the trees give life but i cannot breathe my conscience holds its shield below... -1997

LIGHTS OF HEAVEN i thought about it for a moment now it's taken over me the way you washed over the madness when you drifted off to sea now the lights of heaven burn so low (hello, it's me, you know) the lights of heaven burn so low (i'm lying on the floor) the lights of heaven sing a tune so sad, yeah, i'm dragged below the lights of heaven barely glow it could make sense if all these caterwauls would leave me to my mind i'd build a fence and leave those little things we've gathered all behind now the lights of heaven burn so low (hello, it's me, you know) the lights of heaven burn so low (i'm lying on the floor) the lights of heaven sing a tune so sad, yeah, i'm dragged below the lights of heaven barely glow what it is is nothing more than just statistics on the rise you and i, we took for granted all those things behind our eyes now the lights of heaven burn so low (hello, it's me, you know) the lights of heaven burn so low (i'm lying on the floor) the lights of heaven sing a tune so sad, yeah, i'm dragged below the lights of heaven barely glow -2/3/12

Underfounded 03:07
UNDERFOUNDED it's like a new invention we move to reinvent the wheel no rush, no atmosphere, no deal in in sight we're gathered in the fields now take hold of all of your surroundings don't stop to see your second sight all your thoughts remain underfounded sometimes the window lies and yet it's necessary to satisfy our daily needs we talk of resurrecting fear and fright to walk with maids and kings take hold of all of your surroundings don't stop to see your second sight all your thoughts remain underfounded sometimes love and truth can only be resounding up against what shrouds me from the light all your lies remain underfounded sometimes the window lies and we think about love every day and we see all the mess we create and we scream at the sun when it fades away just like that hopeless crowd, yeah and it's a revelation every time we wrangle out that door we see new stations in our point of view and never ask what for take hold of all of your surroundings don't stop to see your second sight all your thoughts remain underfounded sometimes love and truth can only be resounding up against what shrouds me from the light all your lies remain underfounded sometimes the window lies -12/21/04

OUT OF THIS WORLD "I won't forget" said the elf shaking hands with the mouse No, don't burn down this house No, not again And these pictures in my head They start to spin and swirl Let's get out of this world And on the phone Some joker sells me everything I need Just take these magic seeds and let it grow 'Til all your life is buried in a row in the soil Let's get out of this world Don't close the door I know I said I'd never see you anymore I heard a three ring circus gathered on your floor They tied you up and made you beg for more Just like a whore I know your life has made you such a bore You're still a girl Let's get out of this world. -March 1998

Monkeys 04:15
MONKEYS lyin' eyes, too sky, to nimble on the fly shake it up sometimes and take it to the sky in the wind and on the floor and out the door evermore, it's what we've all bee waiting for even in this masquerade i'd get high and lie and fly right thru the gate to where the wolves are taking shots at all those monkeys at the door in the surface dream it's everything and more so much more in store coz now i've got my monkey on the floor in the dance, we see the colors of our minds in a voice that shakes and trembles with the times breaking signs will break our backs but not our wills til it gets us in the end, you know it will even in this masquerade i'd get high and lie and fly right thru the gate to where the wolves are taking shots at all those monkeys at the door in the surface dream it's everything and more so much more in store coz now i've got my monkey on the floor every thought is like a likeness of the light that burns sometimes when everything is right and sometimes when it's not, we're burning still on the fence between those monkeys and our wills even in this masquerade i'd get high and lie and fly right thru the gate to where the wolves are taking shots at all those monkeys at the door in the surface dream it's everything and more so much more in store coz now i've got my monkey on the floor -4/12/04

SUNDAY NIGHT IN JUNE She was like the lightning On a Sunday night in June She’ll bring you down from your balloon And tear a hole between your bellows She’s never slow here When she looks the devil in the right ear And whispers love so sweet And brings it home again I almost made it through this fever I almost made it through the noise I almost made it to hear her voice again In the background Woman says she’ll never hold me “I will save it for love I will never fall down, not afraid” We’re stolen like two lovers She’s so holy But if you ever have enough You can rewind, play again I almost made it through this fever I almost made it through the noise I almost made it to hear her voice again She was like the lightning On a Sunday night in June She can hold you, she can burn you If that’s not enough -September 2008

DON'T YOU KNOW I WANNA GO? the mountains high and the valley low this winter sky don't you know i wanna go to bring it down tonight to break the bread and wine come on and waste some time don't you know i wanna go? i called her bluff as she turned around she closed her eyes pulled her head up from the ground we'll bring it down tonight we'll break the bread and wine come on and let us waste some time don't you know i wanna go? i stood around as she hit the wall she's run aground but you know she's got it all to bring it down tonight to break the bread and wine come on and waste some tome don't you know i wanna go? -December 1997

IN THE MIDDLE brick by brick and rung by rung step by step, these songs are sung it's like a ghost that dances in the middle of your toes day by day and time after time hand over hand, it's the same old line it's like a threat but we haven't got there yet and here in the middle we ain't got no choice and here in the middle they hush our voices here in the middle with their tricks and their toys they silence the middle and make their own noise these ups and downs, these cups and crowns they shake you down from the sky to the ground it's like a push to believe is to be crushed these highs and lows, like a wire in a rose it breaks and bends and resembles those who left it there at the bottom of the stairs and here in the middle we're all surrounded here in the middle where we stand our ground here in the middle we're all astounded as they break down the middle but they still hang around a lie is a lie and a cry is a cry what's wise is wiser than the outlaw's eyes it takes a fool to reinvent the golden rule to touch, to taste, to breathe, to feel to believe it's more than what's barely real it fills a void but it leaves us all annoyed here in the middle... -11/7/07

YOU MIGHT BE CRAZY take it or leave it if you please you got the sky under your elbows and you're on your knees well, you might be crazy you might be crazy the air is fading through your hands and feet while you dance in semicircles down a dead end street well, you might be crazy you might be crazy the holy ghost has stiffed ya for the bill while you sang in the revival of the whipporwill and the tiniest phalanx is dropping on a dime to satisfy your mind and take good care of your time well, you might be crazy you might be crazy take it or leave it if you please -6/28/06

about

In 2017, in conjunction with my "anniversary" series of album releases, I teamed up with my old pal Rust Rudolph, and his Flyingdeer Records label, and began releasing a series of singles. One track from each album was selected, with cover art that aesthetically fit with its parent album and tons of exclusive b-side tracks, and released worldwide on pretty much every platform imaginable. To date, 25 singles have been released, each one featuring anywhere from 1-8 additional tracks. This album collects the best of those b-sides (or at least my favorites) along with a few previously unreleased songs. This series has been fun, as was the assembly of this set. Whittled down from over 60 b-sides and outtakes, there will surely be another volume of this to come shortly.
