i lost my face out in the wind and felt it all come round again this little island in my eyes she smiles so wide this vision, out along the trail of what it is, i cannot fail to see between the real and what we think we need out on this island it was something holy out on this island it was real it satisfied my urge to keep on roaming over all the fire and the steel and still i lie in the middle lie in this miracle light this rollercoaster on the run i'm thinking back and still it's fun to see it all so real and not just in the wind i thought about it at the edge and how we're clinging to the ledge it's all illusion but it never shines so bright out on this island it was something in the wind this island offers me no fear this island harbors all my love beyond the one who makes this island oh so dear and still i lie in the middle lie in this miracle light out on this island there was something on, yeah out on this island we were here this kind of thing don't happen often but who cares i'll see you in another year still i lie in the middle lie in this miracle light -10/17/19

about

One of my all time greatest loves is Newfoundland. Most people know that. So many of my songs are about that. In 2019 I visited once again and, certain setbacks aside, had a most amazing time. Among the fun memories that were made were nineteen brand new songs that came into being. Many of those songs dealt with Newfoundland in one way or another. "Miracle Light" deals with the very nature of my relationship with that amazing island and how I am literally caught in the middle between my real home and my adopted home, and how impossible it is to choose between them. This song came toward the end of the sessions and really summed things up, in a certain way. I was thrilled with the song from the get-go and I immediately shot a video of this and posted it to Facebook, to great acclaim. When it came time to choose a single from Spaces Erases, this was a no-brainer.

The other three songs are ones that were written during the same sessions but, for one reason or another, did not fit on either Spaces Erases or Mad Honey. So this is where they live. "Driftwood Train" is a fun, chugging sort of song that was also recorded for another project. That version will see the light one of these days. The super spooky "Sparrow" was, believe it or not, written immediately after I hit save on "Miracle Light". Lastly, "Turn On A Dime" is just a fun little rocker that doesn't have much depth but still has much to offer.

More of this story can be found on Spaces Erases, so check that out too. The cover photo was taken in a spot where I had a very long, contemplative sit, while hiking the Fox Island trail in Port Rexton NL. It was this exact spot, and this moment, that I had in mind while I wrote "Miracle Light", later that day. I can't wait until I can go back. Good thing there are songs and memories.
