Every time I do a big songwriting project, several instrumental tracks come into being. They almost never get past the demo stage, as they are just fleeting thoughts, laid down to blow off steam. Every now and then, however, some of those instrumentals will get the full treatment. The Midas Fool and Venus Envy EPs were earlier examples of that. During this project, which gave birth to Boomslang Oblivion, Footprints In The Fog, Lefty Comes Alive, Gung Ho, and Cleaning Out The Gutter, it was decided that I record all of the instrumental bits as well. Those are the tracks that make up this record. Some of these are fleeting thoughts while others are intricate little vignettes. The title of this album, as well as many of the tracks, was inspired by Discworld, and this is the first in a trilogy of such releases. So much of my work is in the lyrical department, and most of my songs are, well, songs. That is my primary focus and, as such, I totally forget just how fun these instrumental sessions are. This is where all the rules go out the window. This is also where we get monotonous but if we can make it sound cool then it's good as gold.
