Lemmings 03:31
we cut the real thing down to size and pantomimed between the eyes this river's now a circle flow forever, oh my dear the time is now a shiny moment on the brink of the scattershots we think will tide us til the moon comes out and pushes all the clutter off the edge here we go - let's welcome it here we go - let's do it right here we go let's watch those lemmings tumble one by one, into the ether, out of sight how many martyrs does it take to give this sucker's ball a shake believe me, it's far tougher when there's no one left to stand on middle ground this tunnel vision never wins they don't care how you reel 'em in this catastrophic way of being has no place so shove it all away here we go - let's welcome it here we go - let's do it right here we go let's watch those lemmings tumble one by one, into the ether, out of sight what kind of saviour turns his back while all his followers attack the very spark that brought us to the point where we had nothing left to gain here we go - let's welcome it here we go - let's do it right here we go let's watch those lemmings tumble one by one, into the ether, out of sight -1/16/21

closer to the edge i can feel my spirit burn it's time to build a bridge between here and what we've learned we've got the sky and now we're gonna do it all again to feel the wonder underneath the scattered shadows on our skin forget your pain we're parachuting backwards in the rain over in the dark we can't be seen for what we are don't light it up beyond a spark if you ever want to know how far's too far a drifter on the fly i've got no reason not to sit and wonder why we all go on pretending that it's something else besides the same old lie forget your pain we're parachuting backwards in the rain after all the rain we'll keep on rising like the tide until we fall and fade, the pain will keep us on the hook until we hide we've got it down no time to sit and wait until it comes around just like the sun we'll throw the fire and the shade until we've won this kind of lie it makes us stronger when we open up our eyes it's time to shine so grab your swagger stick and get on down the line forget your pain we're parachuting backwards in the rain -1/31/21

Diggin' In 03:10
you better not run - you better not hide you better not feed the beast inside he's only just a grin you better not talk - you better not cry you better not dance in the frigid eye of the wind time and time again - we're diggin' in you better not spit - you better not scream you better not kneel before the dream can send you spinning 'round you better not sing - you better not shout you better not stand in the face of doubt before you kiss the ground time and time again - we're diggin' in you better not rise - you better not crawl you better not raze the fire wall just to build it all again you better not spin - you better not shake you better not laugh yourselves awake unless you want to reel it in time and time again - we're diggin' in -1/30/21

sunday morning, feeling warm in the lights of the haze that settles in case of elation such rabid concessions stand in the way of what it is silence on the surface of the scene this thin white veil is all we need delivering the answer in the wind until it goes around again waking up to the the blind and the deep blue trigger this voice from the wind a dime for a dozen, such a drag that it doesn't smile and comfort you again chaos in the belly of the beast a thin white veil, a bridge of peace answers are the ones that make most sense it's not that hard to jump the fence good-bye to the fog and the dirt and decay and all the vultures that stand in the way of what we all want and how it will go when it's time for the next act of the show -1/10/21

here we are standing on a cloud we've come too far standing in the background shaking at the way things are dreaming of a new day, new way back up the bar if ya don't make the cut we'll know it coz here we are standing on a cloud we took those chains and shook 'em in the face of the one and only mother rain bowing like a pauper racing like an outbound train crying like the sky in the morning coz here we are standing on a cloud it's all too much running from your good sense taking off, hot to the touch forgetting what it was that drove us to that crutch laughing in the face of the sun coz here we are standing on a cloud -1/15/21

pull me in we're tearing down the idols now reel me in and throw me to the wolves my god, we are here in this life raise it up it's time to wear the big shoes now knock em down and just pretend it was just a phase my god, we are here in this life look again and watch it come around now think again don't ever let 'em in my god, we are here in this life in this high extraordinary life -1/20/21

we lie on the side it's like a thousand eyes too shy, too light they sing their song and make the jokers sing along too slow to know dance on the brink of the lights of the city scream to the fool who's kicking up a fit laugh in the face of triumph and pity move along this tide, it moves like a big storm shaking by the chains alive, alrght too dark in your soul you shut down while the bastards lose control it's all, that's all sink like a stone we'll rise up like an island sing like a choir to the new tide rolling cry in the shadow of love and of fear move along -1/15/21

about

Chris Anderson's 89th full-length album release.

I was in the midst of a big recording binge, and release frenzy, when the 2021 RPM Challenge appeared on the horizon. At first, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for it, but then January rolled around and, with it, came the 4th, which is my birthday. Traditionally, I like to create on my birthday, so I started writing. It quickly got out of hand and, by the end of the month I had 51 new songs. Stylistically, this material was all over the map, and each new song inspired the next.

As February approached, these songs began to sort themselves into five different groups and all 51 of them were recorded, along with ten instrumentals (which we will talk about later). The project, as a whole, was called Boomslang Oblivion, which also lent itself to title of the first album to come from the project. The second album was called Footprints In The Fog while the third is the one you have here, known as Lefty Comes Alive.

Each of these albums has its own flavor. Boomslang Oblivion is the big, anthemic, exclamation point album, and just might be my favorite FDM release of all time. Footprints In The Fog takes that idea and runs with it, to some wild extremes. I dig that one a lot. Lefty Comes Alive, however, is a different beast. The "lefty" in the title refers to left-field, and this album spends plenty of time there. From the sinister snarl of "Mock Disaster" to the sounds of lemmings, kazoos, and hypnotic jams, this album features some wild new territory for FDM, and was fun as hell to record. These are some of my favorite songs of the bunch and many are ones that will stick around in setlists for years to come.

The fourth album of the series is called Gung Ho! and it's a fun album, full of good-time rockers, while the fifth album, Cleaning Out The Gutter, contains a lot of the shorter, more bizarre songs from the sessions, as well as a handful of solid tunes that just didn't fit on other albums (or held back, to validate this release - ha!). Both of those are coming, as well as an album called Esme's Kitchen, made up of instrumentals that were written and recorded at the same time. Those albums will all appear in due time.

For now, however, the moment has come for Lefty to come alive.
