Chris Anderson's 96th full-length album release.

In 2021, completely without intent, a new songwriting project came out of nowhere. The rules were to write every day (when possible), no matter what. Soon, songs came spilling out faster than I could even write them and, when the smoke cleared, there were 283 new FDM songs. And no fucking idea what to do with them.

In January 2022, I launched the "Music Box Tour" which was a series of virtual performances, broadcast from The Room, which saw every one of those songs being presented. Once they were all performed, there were several additional shows that featured some of the better ones again, sometimes several times over.

After each set was complete, I would play it again in front of a mic. Those recordings would (until I lost track) be overdubbed, with a variety of instruments, and those songs further came to life. Several of those recordings made up the album, The Solipsist, which was my offering to the 2022 RPM Challenge, while the majority are still sitting in the vault.

The next step was to re-record those demos, with the same kind of instrumentation, and further refine those songs. Only a dozen songs were dealt with (most of which had already been recorded in this form but I had forgotten which ones) before I changed gears again and started working on something else.

When the time came to start preparing my 8-track for the onslaught of activity that was to come, that set of twelve songs was rediscovered and so it was decided that this would become an album (a disc was being burned for reference so I figured I would give it a title and a cover, why the hell not). Rather than labor over some kind of clever sequence, it was decided to simply line these up in the order they were recorded (except for "Keep On Pretending" which was the first song recorded but was moved to the end of the album since it was already on The Solipsist).

While this is technically not from the same run of sessions as The Solipsist, this is still considered a follow-up to that album and those who prefer to hear me play in a less cluttered environment will find much to enjoy here, I think. While all of these songs will get the big-production treatment at some point, there will be several more albums such as this, featuring the other tracks from the demo sessions. Stay tuned. In the meantime, I hope y'all dig this little record.
