Little Lines 03:31
LITTLE LINES these little lines we see them all inside and it's time and it's time to leave them all behind these little lines erase what's done, it's done and we move and we breathe in true deniability this will is crushed as we roll over the mountain just a push, a worthy pull the wisest is the fool who stops to shake off the remnants of the war and they move, and they move like they never moved before a fact's a fact, jack and we're never going back to the places where we’d run when that old man dropped the bomb we're looking out for the creases in the wire and the ones who act like god are the ones left in the fire we're turning out now and turning on the white it's like a screen, so new and clean like there's nothing in between but what is right when the others take their time to move and breathe and stamp their feet in true deniability these little lines we see them all inside and it's time and it's time to wrestle with the light these little lines erase what's done, it's done and we move and we breathe in true deniability -2/7/08

Magenta Rose 04:22
MAGENTA ROSE magenta rose these fingers cultivating we feel it underneath our nose through will of steel it's like an army graveyard the way it looks is all too real stepping out to the roundabout singing "we all had a good time then" on the cusp of something happening, yeah magenta rose sore eyes are ever healing you can see her tremble as she grows through the ice and snow or in this arid kingdom of roots and wires down below stepping out to the roundabout singing "we all had a good time then" on the cusp of something happening, yeah magenta rose fool's gold is never weaker than these majestic highs and lows that make us whole when we feel so concentrated on the outer reaches of our souls stepping out to the roundabout singing "we all had a good time then" on the cusp of something happening, yeah -2/7/08

DID YOU EVEN TRY? we took the long way back through the sullen wind and rain we gathered all of the facts and laid them out on the dash we were all so brave but then you withered and you said goodbye with little talk and even less of a cry did you even try? did you even try? it's a hopeless situation and i'm just sitting there alone as you said well i don't know what i want from you, anyway we left it out in the car and made our way to the bar for the seventh time you had your feet on the floor and one eye on the door like you would take the prize and when they called you out you feigned surprise as they all laughed about the look in your eyes did you even try? did you even try? it's like something from a movie that nobody saw so we all laughed and said well i don't know what i want from you, anyway time has a funny way of showing you the way we stumbled back to the car acting like rock stars from another time and when we hit the back wall we saw nothing at all except the sweet sublime i heard you mutter it was all a big lie before you whimpered and you closed your eyes did you even try? did you even try? we just lied alone in quietutde and listened to the rain as we died i don't know what i want from you, anyway -2/25/08

Paradise 17:30
PARADISE I: look into the wind you'll see the dust in the middle of the interstate where the truckers and the bikers and the cops all argue with the wait and the crackle of the pavement leaves you waiting for the chance to reawaken it's such a negative living on the road in the morning is a bell that let's you know about the movement of the second hand when it rings you must believe but never leave or you will miss the best you ever had and the crackle of the fire in the barrel is enough to send you off to sleep it's a godsend being home in bed where's all the time we used to have? we toss it out and turn away from the sun and like a diamond in a hole we keep it hidden from the rest of the world this paradise is all we've got II: in the evening of the well another wish another penny on the waterbed to wish you must believe but to believe you must consider everything you said it's like a cannon or a fountain of intentions where the worst is not the finish line it's a fine line waiting for the storm a subtle word a noble glance another chance to do it well or do it all again the prize is not the end but what a price we pay for living in our second skin it's a tease the way that we ignite the sparrow for the everlasting revelry to bring it all home and lose it all again where's all the poison from their minds we stir it up and serve it all the time and like a rabbit in a hat we disappear in turn imagine that this paradise is all we've got III: to believe it's not the end we'll never leave or fall away again imagine it's imagination crawling on your skin we take a dive to wrestle with these thoughts again we do our best to take it on the chin imagine it's imagination crawling on your skin we take a dive to dream of arrows, curves, and bends we keep it moving so it never has to end imagine it's imagination crawling on your skin we take a dive IV: another mark another score we saw the angel and the devil sleeping on the floor it's a scenic revolution where the truth is that there nothing really anymore if the wisest of the fools is still a fool well who is wise and what's she waiting for? it's a long haul from the attic to the cellar door it's con well, some may say but it's the only way we make it though the everyday we're turning on and turning off and reinventing all the wheels and light to light our way when the burden is too great we reconsider and we turn and find another gate we improvise it and we close our eyes and welcome it if she's the one we've waited for we'll hang a sign up on the last blue door and if she's still there, on the floor we'll close our eyes and lay and wait for more.... -3/3/08

Loose Cannon 03:13
LOOSE CANNON you're like a loose, loose cannon in the way that you shake in the way that you move and you kick us awake you're like a loose, loose cannon and you take and you take in the shadow of the morning when the cold night breaks it's a feat just to move past the diamond and the die cast comfort of the candle and the splinters of the mast to break for a moment or get underneath our skin it's like we're never home it's just the way we beat the wind when the barrel and the chime scrape the ferile, futile crime and the liars on parade barely know they got it made to watch the world spin or get underneath our skin it's like we crossed the line just trying to get back in it's a con, a constant push to strip the branches off the burning bush it's a crush, it's a crush when we're dancing in the aura of the burning bush in the december of our days when nothing's left there, in our way we spin the gun around and cut them down in eighty ways and the tv heads all laugh and they dissect with a new spin and the only thing that you can do is to do it all over again you're like a loose, loose cannon in the way that you shake in the way that you move and you kick us awake you're like a loose, loose cannon and you take and you take in the shadow of the morning when the cold night breaks -3/29/08

STANDING ON THE FENCE THAT DIVIDES LOVE AND HATE we're standing on the fence that divides all the love and the hate in the world we're staring at the arrow that points to the ones who must wait for the world we're standing on the fence that divides love and hate in the world we must remember, then to keep it well within our skin we must remember, then to take it out before it spins and if everyone behaves we might save it til it comes around again we're standing on the fence that divides all the love and the hate in the world we're staring at the arrow that points to the ones who must wait for the world we're standing on the fence that divides love and hate in the world we must consider it and think about the coming age we must consider it and not just wait til they engage and if everyone behaves we might avoid the shit that puts us at this stage we're standing on the fence that divides all the love and the hate in the world we're staring at the arrow that points to the ones who must wait for the world we're standing on the fence that divides love and hate in the world call it for one - and you better hold us to it tango for two - and there's no reason not to do it three for the floor, and the four sends us off, for the door we must remember, then to hit the lights before we speak we must remember, then to feed off others, than the meek and if everyone behaves then perhaps we won't be so weak we're standing on the fence that divides all the love and the hate in the world we're staring at the arrow that points to the ones who must wait for the world we're standing on the fence that divides love and hate in the world -3/21/08

A THOUSAND HEELS ABOUND lookin' out to see a captain on the rise he takes his hand and folds in the ground and pulls it up with all the salt from ebbing tides he takes it in and waits awhile to fly a thousand heels abound holding still await the fire and the fog it breaks the will and stops the sqeaky wheel we took our time while the others pushed it on to take the wine and sing an old work song a thousand heels abound waiting out while the rain washes it out to start again in someone else's work-out skin it's like a ride between the eras of all time it's all the same and nothing gonna change a thousand heels abound -2/25/08

Seachanges 05:56
SEACHANGES all good things must come to an end sometimes all that still glitters is gold, sometimes these ghosts still walk in the garden, sometimes and the sea's still partial to parting sometimes we're casting away for 10,000 days in the wind heed the signs in the way if you barely can see, just pretend you look so good in that dress, my friend what you can't see, you can never believe, sometimes when they say that it's free, it really is free, sometimes when they call for a storm, it's only a trickle sometimes and the first of three wishes is really the last, sometimes we're casting away for 10,000 days in the wind heed the signs in the way if you barely can see, just pretend you look so good in that dress, my friend oh, chilly water oh, the salt in the air it's over there right there all good things must come to an end sometime all we imagine is barely the truth sometimes the moon is not so keen in the sky, sometimes and the sea's still partial to rising sometimes we're casting away for 10,000 days in the wind heed the signs in the way if you barely can see, just pretend you look so good in that dress, my friend -2/25/08

Keepin' On 02:24
KEEPIN' ON out the door, she's running loose she has no shoes or even an excuse the blues she lives is just enough to pull me in this wine can make some merry times and mary turns right on a dime to follow all the signs from here to who knows when and sometimes, in the garden it's our part to let it grow and grow we feel the measure of our souls recede away this time is not like other times no time to waste, no time to shine it's time to break loose from the reins and face the day to watch and wait and wish and feel to give away when others steal a piece of every puzzle that we lost today and sometimes in the dark we best reflect the way we used to talk and any one of those is just the same as this we sit around and wait for treasure expectations in our heads we feel the pull but manage to resist the push and as we sit, the time goes by faster than we blink our eyes this great commotion's not enough to make it shine and if, at first, we reconsider everything we ever did it's not to say that anything would ever change so we keep it up as we've been keeping on and on, we keep on keeping on and on, we keep on keeping on... -2/7/08

Saving Face 04:52
SAVING FACE sometimes we all lose sight of the ground as our footsteps drag us on and on and on we hear it as it crackles through the air and settles in the mud between our ears it portrays itself as deified madness but somewhere in the shuffle, all the point is lost the word out on the street is that we all should be so glad that we've managed to get this far, at that cost sometimes, as the words come flying forth only then do we collect our thoughts from the most ridiculous to profound entangled in a mighty verbal knot it caters to our whims, every time the hammer drops and every time we think we feel at ease from east to west, we know what's best and at least we think we know how to please sometimes we forget how to speak and sometimes it's the poet at fault sometimes we feel ourselves weaken sometimes we are ground to a halt sometimes we lose what we're seeking and sometimes we brave the assualt sometimes we deny our intent the time it takes to build a better thought while the jokers perform their sad, old routine and fall over lines overwrought it feels like that chilly and wind-beaten day when harrison gave his address in the way that we feel it, down deep in our soul what is valid is anybody's guess -2/28/08

about

Chris Anderson's 70th full-length album.

The songs that make up this album were originally written in late winter 2008. At the time, I had no recording gear except a single microphone plugged into my computer and I was writing songs like a bat out of hell, working on my offering for that year's RPM Challenge. A dozen or so songs were written and recorded acoustically as an album called A Thousand Heels Abound. Once that album was done, the songs came flying forth at a furious pace, and there were several further acoustic albums, released on the Bootleg Records label and pretty much for my ears only - albums with titles such as Parasites, bleak., Winsome Loser, Cautionary Witchcraft, The Takedown, Arpeggiation, and Cannonball (all of these are available on Bandcamp).

Several of these songs were recorded about six months later, for the Supernova album, while another handful were revived in late 2012 for an album called Walking In The Devil's Shoes (both are available on Bandcamp). This is the third album to address material from these sessions and this record was an absolute blast to make. Hearing songs like "Magenta Rose" and the epic "Paradise" come to life in these arrangements is like crossing an item off a bucket list. So many songs were written at this time that there are still at least two more albums that could be drawn from this particular spring,

Revisiting all these different eras of my songwriting has been rewarding on levels never before imagined. Some of these revivals are merely fun, while some are a revelation. Which is which, it all depends on the day. Sometimes it's like therapy, sometimes it's like catching up with an old friend. And sometimes it's both. Whatever the case, this album is one that I hold very dear and I really hope you like it.
